Nature's Hoofcare Rehabilitation Centre - Woodville, Ontario Canada
In 2003 Kate Romanenko opened the O Kate Corral, a 100-acre facility dedicated to the rehabilitation of horses with lameness and other hoof related diseases and injuries.
She has worked hard to create a "perfect pasture" environment, whose acres of grasses and weeds provide an optimum natural living environment for horses.
The horse areas contain many varied types of terrain to simulate hoof wear and provide footing for optimum hoof function. There are sandy areas to roll in, pebbles in heavily travelled areas, crushed limestone in working arenas, concrete areas that stay high and dry, and soaking areas, ponds and a small stream running through the property.
Horses enjoy many different types of trees and bushes to chew on such as apple and pear trees as well as wild raspberry and goose berry bushes.
Loafing sheds are bedded with straw, even though the horses rarely use the run-ins. Clinic floors are lined with rubber mats and carpets for hoof comfort while trimming.
This facility is geared towards maintaining "nature's way of equine management". It offers 24 hour turnout in a very comfortable and natural herd environment. This facility caters to all breeds of horses, donkeys, ponies and minis. Visitors are always welcome by appointment.
